Itinerary

D1Arrive in Mâcon. Loop from Mâcon 64 km/40 miles, 1,020 meters/3,345 ft of climbing

After checking into your hotel in Macon, we will outfit you with your bikes and go over the daily itinerary before pointing you on your merry way. You'll follow a route that winds through a scenic landscape checkered with vineyards such as Saint-Verand and Pouilly-Fuisse, along with the hard-to-miss Solutré rock formation, famous as a prehistoric site of the eponymous Solutrean Paleolithic culture.

D2Mâcon to Villié-Morgon 74 km/46 miles, 1,400 meters/4,595 ft of climbing

Leaving Mâcon, your route will take you through the world-famous vineyards of Julienas, Saint-Amour,
Fleurie, and Moulin-à-Vent. Feel free to take a short break and sample some of their viticultural varieties,
or make a pit stop in Romaneche, home to Georges Duboeuf’s Museum of Wine! Don’t indulge too much
though, for the pace picks up from here with some rewarding climbs in the “Terrasse d’Avenas”, a
beautiful area that offers superb panoramic views of the entire Beaujolais region. A nice descent finds you
in Beaujeu, the town that gives the region its name! Visit its 12th-century church, then continue the last 10
kilometers (6 miles) to Villié-Morgon.

D3Villié-Morgon to Vaux-en-Beaujolais 62 km/39 miles, 1,300 meters/4,265 ft of climbing

Can’t get enough of the beautiful Beaujolais scenery? No problem. Today’s ride includes a climb up Mont-
Brouilly (484 m / 1,450 ft.), offering one of the best viewpoints of the entire region. The mountain itself is
quite picturesque, its slopes covered with Côte-de-Brouilly vines and its summit crowned by a 19thcentury
chapel that remains a site of pilgrimage. From here, the route begins to climb in earnest, leading
you along hillside routes through lush woods before a final descent into the charming village of Vaux-en-
Beaujolais. Fun fact: besides its wine, the village is also known for inspiring the fictional town of
Clochemerle in Gabriel Chevallier’s satirical novel of the same name.

D4Loop around Vaux-en-Beaujolais (3 options) and departure Three options: 29 km/18 miles, 790 meters/2,590 ft - 36 km/22 miles, 970 meters/3,180 ft - 69 km/43 miles, 1,660 meters/5,445 ft of climbing

Your last day's ride will take you through "Les Pierres Dorées" and its magnificent villages made of these
"golden stones" before riding back through some vineyards of the southernmost part of Burgundy. Buy a
bottle of wine (or two) to bring home and share with your friends and family. Or take a last couple of
pictures to share with your neighbors, the choice is yours. With three different length rides to choose
from, you can go as long as you want, as hard as you want. It’s the perfect end to your cycling in
Beaujolais adventure!
Your transfer to Lyon is included after your last ride!
