Start your journey by going back in time to the marvelous 1,000-year old city of Segovia, where the fantasy-like sandstone cathedral and Alcazar fortress await for you to begin your own fairy tale adventure. As you then cycle through the beautiful rustic countryside you will encounter various charming villages where we recommend you stop by to take in the sights of architectural marvels such as the Royal Palace of San Ildefonso in Collado Hermoso and the romanesque church of San Juan Bautista in the the beautifully preserved town of Pedraza. Coast through fields of sunflowers and wheat, enjoy a picnic near crystal clear natural springs (why not take a dip while you’re at it?), and continue your journey to the magnificent destination that is Duraton Canyon Nature Reserve. 

Itinerary

D1Arrival to Segovia

Begin your journey in the beautifully preserved, antiquated city of Segovia, which was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1985. Spending your first night in the city, take time to explore the various jewels of the city including the marvelous cathedral and Alcazar, which are truly straight out of a fairytale! Take a stroll by the Roman Aqueduct– the best preserved in the world– and make your way to the lovely ‘Plaza Mayor’ where you can end your day with classic Spanish tapas and wine. 

 

D2Segovia to Collado Hermoso 44km/27 miles; 540 meters/1,770 ft climbing

Start your cycling off right with views of the splendid Spanish countryside, leading you to the charming village of Collado Hermoso. Stop by the extravagant Royal Palace of San Ildefonso. Walking by its gorgeous gardens and fabulous fountains will have you feeling like a monarch in the 18th century! 

 

 

D3Round trip to Turegano 38 km/24 miles, 370 meters/1,215 ft climbing

Ride away from the mountains to step into the medieval town that is Turegano. Stroll by town and admire the marvelous castle that towers over the village (visiting it is definitely a must on your checklist). Stop by the plaza to enjoy an aperitif or a delightful traditional meal!

 

D4Collado Hermoso to Pedraza 34 km/21 miles, 290 meters/950 ft climbing

Continue your journey back in time in the beautiful walled city of Pedraza. Considered to be the best preserved medieval village, not only in Segovia and Castilla y León, but in all of Spain, it is sure to be a highlight of your trip! This picture perfect town is a hidden gem of the region, filled with cobbled streets and local artisan shops for you to explore.

D5Round trip Pedraza 29km/18 miles, 300 meters/985 ft climbing

Cycle through and out the stunning old stone doorway that serves as an entrance to Pedraza and make your way through the roads of the rural countryside to various quaint villages that will give you a blast from the past. The rustic styles of charming towns like Huerta and Canicosa will allow you to witness the beauty of rural life as if you were going back in time.

D6Pedraza to Sepulveda 31 km/19 miles, 330 meters/1,080 ft climbing

Take a journey through sensational fields of sunflowers and wheat to the hilltop town of Sepulveda today. As you cycle through the plains of Castilla, soak in all of the natural beauty that surrounds you! Take a dip in the crystalline waters of the natural springs and have a picnic as you marvel at the medieval jewel that is your nearby destination. The winding cobbled streets of Sepulveda will lead you to romanesque churches, castles, and numerous other hidden treasures the town has to offer. 

This stunning capital of the region is also perfect for gastronomic pursuits, with various restaurants offering traditional meals such as roasted cordero and cochinillo.

D7Round trip Sepulveda: Duraton Natural Park 37 km/23miles, 500 meters/1,640 ft climbing

 On this last journey of your trip, you'll be greeted with the scenic views and tranquility at Duranton Canyon Nature Reserve. Look down to see the river that has settled into the depths of the canyon, and look up to spot the astounding birds that inhabit the area, including the golden eagles and peregrine falcons.
